This project is a somewhat large one that will involve a lot of time and effort and not for a considerably large pay - however, I seek a gifted programmer who would be committed to the project and help start up a community that will aim to help many people. The site of course can be used in any portfolio/cv and I will be happy to give a glowing refrence.
The project is called Creative Gaming and its overall aim is to support the independent developers. My name is John and I tour schools around the UK with a workshop teaching late teens how to enter the develop applications and games. This is used via a various use of tools, from simple click and create tools to using programming languages. This workshop has been running for about 20 months now at 2 schools and has been very successful. However, from the feedback we've received from pupils it is apparent that although they enjoy creating various applications and games, they have a hard time finding free web hosts and etc to host the files and grow a presence on the internet. I used to be an independent developer myself, starting in my teens due to a similar workshop and I can ensure you that I myself found it quite difficult too.
I propose to run a independent developer community for users to share various applications and games they've created. Anyone can join, from various skill levels and add their programs and Creative Gaming will host them if needed. This will be incredibly useful for the community as it would give users a place to discuss, upload, review and comment on each others creations. The different aspects/pages of the site will be described below:
If a user would want to add a game or an application, or download them, they would first *have* to sign up and be a member. While logged in, they can submit a game/application from the user panel. The information they would need would include: the name of the game, the developer, the genre and a brief description of the game/application. The information not necessary to submit would be screenshots and a review (other members can submit reviews and screenshots for games and applications). They can then either submit a download link or choose to upload the game to the creative-gaming server. (if they choose to upload, the upload limit is set by the staff in their admin panel). Once the member has filled this information in and submitted it, it is *not* added to the site straight away but instead the submission needs to be accepted by a staff member (via the admin panel).
Home page
The home page would include the latest 3 or so news (though only a sentence or two of each, with a read more caption to them) and then only the headlines to a further 2 or so older news. It would also show (in a different panel) the latest games, applications, most recent featured game and application and most recent featured member. In another panel it would be great if there could possibly be a shout box (only members can submit to it).
Games page
The overall games page will allow users to browse games by most popular, most recent, genre, developer and featured. It will also show (in a separate panel) 4 or so of the most recent featured games, shown by a little mini picture of it. (similar to the “on the spot” section of dospot).
Games profile
The profile of each game will show the name of the game (which will have a star next to it if it’s featured), two visible screenshots, the brief description of the game with its genre and how many downloads and a review (if applicable). And obviously the download link. In two separate panels, they’d be two of the most recent featured applications and games with their mini pics.
Application page
The application page will be the same as the games page, but with applications.
Application Profile
The applications profile pages will be the same to the games, but with applications.
Members Page
The members page will allow members to browse through members with a number of options, and on a separate panel a list of the most recent featured members and donators. They’ll also be a donate link there.
Members profile
Their profile page will display their username, (stared if featured and the word donator in bold if donated), how many views they’ve had on their profile, their avatar, their description of themselves and their submission info. Also if they’re featured, the testimonial will be at the bottom of the page. In a separate panel they’ll be a list of recent donators and the donate link.
User panel
From the user panel page, members will be able to edit their info/upload avatar, submit an app/game to staff with the process discussed earlier and submit a review or screenshot for a game/application (they’ll need the name of it). Again, In a separate panel they’ll be a list of recent donators and the donate link.
Admin panel page
The staff will be able to use the admin panel to submit games/apps directly to site. Edit the upload limit for games/apps. Feature members (by submitting a testimonial first), make members donators (by listing their username and how much they’ve donated) and feature games and apps. Also view various statistics of the site if possible (ie how many members, downloads, submissions etc).
Forum
A forum with various sub-forums. Also a staff only one and each post/topic will show the users avatar if they have one.
I know the pay is not much, but this will be a community, not a business. It will be moderated by myself and every part of the site will be funded by myself. If a programmer is willing to take on the project, I would be open to discuss a system that some of the initial donations from the site will be given to them to thank them for their work.
Please visit for a directory of 8 images to get a visual clue of how I'd like the site to appear like.
Thank you very much,
John M
